Desert Pests In and Around Tucson
Ants
There are over 200 different kind of ants in Arizona, so it’s not surprising that the state has the highest diversity of ants in the country. Ants love the warm weather and they maintain huge colonies that can cause big problems around and in your home. Ants are scavengers and love to bring back sweet treats to their colony. If you are near their territory they are quick to swarm and attack. There are some home remedies that may work a little but sometimes taking matters in to your own hands could make the problem worse.
Termites
Subterranean termites are the most common in Southern Arizona. They are social insects that live in highly organized colonies. These termites like fungus infested wood and paper. If you have a termite infestation, the most common sign is the presence of drop tubes that come out of your ceiling or walls. Subterranean termites only require a tiny crack to get access in to the wall. Dry wood termites are also common in this area. They are responsible for most of the dry wood damage in Arizona. Severe damage can happen when there are multiple colonies or if they are left untreated for a long period of time. There are also other species of termites located in Arizona. To keep peace of mind let our highly trained professionals inspect your home or business. If termite evidence is found, treatment will provide you with a strong one year warranty on the entire home.

Here in the desert, the most common rodents that may infest your property are Kangaroo rats, Pack rats, Round Tail Ground Squirrels, Mice and Squirrels. Rodents can be a big issue in southern Arizona for many reasons including preventing a fruitful garden and causing damage to property and vehicles. They like to hang around if they have a convenient food and water source. If you have a garden put netting around it. Also keep dog or cat food covered or out of reach. If you have a rodent problem, we can provide you with many different methods from baiting and trapping to exclusion (screens, netting and access remediation) to eliminate the issue.
Bed Bugs and Cockroaches
Bed Bugs: Bed bugs are definitely back with a vengeance. They can be found anywhere from your house, movie theaters and hotels that you stay in while on vacation. They may not be noticeable at first, but as an infestation grows they become very apparent. They can be flat or round, they are wingless and can be light brown to reddish brown in color. The nymphs, or young bed bugs, are hard to see with the naked eye and are a translucent or whitish in color. If you fear that you have a bed bug problem, there are some signs you can look for first. If you have red and itchy bites that form a line on your skin or fecal spots on your mattress, sheets or bed frame those would be signs to have a free inspection scheduled. They leave casings or skins along the mattress seams, baseboards or behind the headboard. Bed bugs signs don’t always show up right away because some people don’t react to them. If an inspection finds that you do have an infestation, you can be rest assured that our guys are thoroughly trained and will eliminate the problem.
Cockroaches: There are many species of cockroaches. In Arizona these are the most common: German, American, Oriental and Brownbanded. Cockroaches thrive in filthy or unsanitary environments but they can also live in clean ones. If you notice a roach, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a huge problem. It is initially recommended to monitor the situation and if you start to see more or are concerned, contact us to come out and inspect for free. The best way to keep cockroaches at bay is to keep the your place of business or home sanitary and free of clutter.
Bees and Wasps
Bees are social insects that live in colonies up to 60,000 strong. The queen is the largest in the colony and she can lay up to 3,000 eggs in a single day. Bees are responsible for pollinating plants and making honey, but some will sting you if provoked. The majority of Bees in southern Arizona are Africanized, so don’t attempt to address this problem on your own. Carpenter Bees are quite different, they attack areas of the home that are made of wood, but are fairly non-aggressive to people and pets. Females are dark in color and males are very light to golden in color. The damage from Carpenter Bees can be minimal if caught quickly, however, if not, the damage grows exponentially from year to year. Their entry holes can be about one half inch round and they can tunnel to a depth of four to six inches.
Scorpions
Scorpions win when it comes to imposing fear on homeowners and their families. There are several species in Arizona and some are more dangerous than others. Scorpions will sting you if they can get close enough and feel threatened. All scorpions are venomous, mainly so they can attack their prey. Some scorpion stings are a lot more harmful than others.
