Bees are social insects that live in colonies up to 60,000 strong. The queen is the largest in the colony and she can lay up to 3,000 eggs in a single day. Bees are responsible for pollinating plants and making honey, but some will sting you if provoked. The majority of Bees in southern Arizona are Africanized, so don’t attempt to address this problem on your own. Carpenter Bees are quite different. They attack areas of the home that are made of wood, but are fairly non-aggressive to people and pets. Females are dark in color and males are very light to golden in color. The damage from Carpenter Bees can be minimal if caught quickly. The damage grows exponentially from year to year. Their entry holes can be about one half inch round and they can tunnel to a depth of four to six inches. Call us immediately if their is a bee issue of any kind on your property.
